Most businesses know that to increase their profits and overall presence, they need to have a website. A website makes a business and its services easier to find. For those businesses that are selling products and services, it can increase sales by attracting a whole new type of customer. Websites can also expand the reach of your business because anyone around the world can look at your site.
There are also ways to make money through your website without spending any money upfront and with very little effort on your part. One of these money making tools is affiliate programs.
What are affiliate programs?
This type of program is a mutually beneficial relationship involving an affiliate and a merchant. The merchant places advertisements on the affiliate’s website. When people click on these ads and are directed to the merchant’s site, the affiliate gets a commission check for the sales made from the ad. So, both parties benefit–the merchants get more sales and exposure, and the affiliates get a commission for agreeing to advertise on their site.
What you need to know
You can have more than one affiliate or more than one merchant advertising on your site. However, it’s important to make sure that you use reputable affiliates and merchants. There are many scams out there, which could end up costing you money or wasting your time. Do plenty of research to find out if the affiliate program is legitimate, how much commission you will receive or be paying, who to contact in case you have questions or problems, and so forth.
Affiliate programs can be a great way to make money from your website with little effort and start-up costs. A thorough review of the program you are considering will give you a better idea of how the program works, what to expect, and how much you can make.

What do you do when you are in the middle of a big company project and your laptop breaks down? If it is a company computer, you’re in luck—they should issue a new one. But what if it is Saturday, and you promised to have the work done by Monday, but no one is in the office?
Many independent contractors and employees use their own laptops for projects, and this is truly a crisis, especially if payday is a week away. No project means no paycheck.
Hopefully, you have everything backed up somewhere. If you haven’t learned that by now, you’re in trouble. Stop and back up your data. Now, what would you do about the laptop if it was you? Can you do your work at a local library? If the information is too sensitive, that might be a bad option. Have you ever noticed TV shows where the FBI agents are walking around on busy streets talking about cases? It seems like that is not very smart, when you do not know who might be tailing you or listening in. At the library you don’t know who might be looking over your shoulder. Also, many libraries have hours that are inconvenient to your work schedule—especially if you are a night owl.
It is a good idea to have an emergency fund in your savings account, but this is not a reality for many people. If you have no room on your credit card, and the choice is between food and getting a new laptop, a payday loan may just solve your problem. Perhaps later you can talk your employer into paying for it. Maybe you should talk your employer about the scenario in advance, so you have a plan in case this happens. Computers fail fairly often, but deadlines have to be met.

It’s not just phones you get free with contracts – laptops are also being offered with no initial outlay as part of mobile broadband deals. For business people, or if you want to watch films while on the move, accessing mobile broadband through your laptop is much more practical than a phone.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch however, so before you sign up to the next great offer that catches your eye, here’s the basic things you need to consider.
Which network?
Choosing your broadband network is pretty much the same as choosing your phone network. The main providers are the usual suspects from the phone world – O2, 3 Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, to name a few. If you don’t get a good signal on your mobile from one particular provider, you won’t receive the internet well either. Speed is not great on mobile broadband when compared with fixed-line options, so make sure you have the best signal possible.
Which contract?
Consider what you will be using your laptop for – if it’s just checking emails and viewing websites then you won’t need access to a huge amount of data. However if you want to download the latest movie, then choose a contract that accommodates this – if you exceed your monthly limits, this can prove expensive.
Check the small print – some laptop contracts will tie you in for 24 months – that’s a long-time to be unhappy with the deal you’ve chosen.
If you don’t want to be tied into a contract, but still want broadband on the move, pay as you go mobile broadband can be accessed via a dongle, which is plugged into your machine through the USB. You won’t get a free laptop this way, but if you’ve got one already, it’s a great way to get more usage out of your existing bit of kit. Free laptop deals are always more a month than simply paying for broadband, so if there’s nothing wrong with what you’ve got already, don’t get bamboozled by a seemingly great offer.
Still confused? For help choosing the best deal to suit your needs, it’s worth using a broadband comparison site, such as Broadband Genie (http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/)
